ADVISORY BOARD
Having spent thousands of hours studying belted kingfisher breeding biology along the Connecticut River while conducting his doctoral research at
UMASS-Amherst, Dan feels a special affinity for riverine habitats and was glad to be invited to join the BkC board in 2013. Dan has lived in Argyle for the past 10 years and works as the director of environmental affairs for a utility-scale wind energy developer. He looks forward to using his back-ground in ecology and natural history to help promote the BkC's mission related to conservation and education. |
A long time BkC member and supporter, Jim joined the board in 2010 to help facilitate events and better focus on local issues including initiating "The Battenkill Runs Through It" Festival.
An AIA registered architect and LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) accredited professional, his contributions to local planning, preservation and environmental issues are numerous. As an avid trout fisherman, love of the BattenKill is in his genes and strives to promote the river and the importance of cool, clear water. |
Lorraine's involvement began with producing the first Battenkill Runs Through It Festival in 2011. Since then she has contributed her independent consulting firm's event planning and fundraising services to "Move BkC's Mission Forward".
Prior to her work in the not for profit sector, she worked as a corporate investment banker. She holds an MBA from IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain and a BA in International Affairs from GW University in Washington, DC. Lorraine's love of the Battenkill entails any and all activities related to the river. |
A BkC founding board member, Stuart has served as Chair since 2005. A professor of writing and literature at SUNY Adirondack, he also directs the college's Writer's Project and is a winner of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award.
Stuart is an avid poet with two collections of poetry, Reasons to Hate the Sky & Questions for the Sphinx, which won the Adirondack Center for Writing People’s Choice Best Book Award in 2011. An avid fly fisher, he is nearing completion of a book on small stream fly fishing. Professor Bartow is a former Peace Corps volunteer. |
Sue is a well known educator, promoter and advocate for the natural history of the area including the Battenkill and the its watershed.
Having lived in the area for over 25 years and currently Chief Mycologist for Evocative Design, Sue is well known for the popular nature walks she conducts for numerous organizations in the area. As a past board member, Sue fostered ties with BkC's Italian Sister River, the Sangro and continues to help BkC heighten the public's awareness and involvement with the Battenkill. |
Stephen is an artist who lives and works in the Battenkill region as well as in NYC. His work is exhibited internationally and is in many major collections. Stephen and Lilly have had a house on the Battenkill since 1986. Lilly is in Real Estate and was originally with Country Properties but has expanded to Caldwell Bankers upstate and Halstead Properties in NYC/Brooklyn. Both Stephen and Lilly have a shared love of the Battenkill, Stephen sees it as a true source of beauty and Lilly knows its value as a regional treasure.
